Supranational Reference Laboratory

The Supranational Reference Laboratory for Tuberculosis (SRL Cotonou) is the Reference Laboratory for Mycobacteria (LRM) of the National Tuberculosis Program (NTP) of Benin. It is a public clinical biology laboratory offering standard mycobacteriology, biochemistry, hematology and bacteriology tests.

The SRL of Cotonou is the central level laboratory in the network of tuberculosis laboratories of NTP of Benin. As such it has a major role in public health.

In 2017, the LRM was certified as a Supranational Reference Laboratory (SRL) by the World Health Organization. It is the only SRL in the West and Central African region and is an integral part of the WHO SRL network.

The Cotonou SRL is located within the premises of the Centre National Hospitalier et Universitaire de Pneumo-Phtisiologie de Cotonou (CNHU-PPC) commonly known as “LAZARET”. Its mission is to offer quality services to its clients. The LRM aims to reach the accreditation of all its processes according to the ISO 15189 standard by 2021 as recognition of its skills in the analyses performed. The quality policy can be read in this link.
